The Journey Christian Church adheres to some basic fundamental beliefs as described in the Bible.
We are a non-denominational church and as such take human direction only through the leadership of elders here at Journey.
We support doctrines which empower us to know and experience God and His plan for our lives. We live the Christian life through the power of the Holy Spirit, and are called to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through our words and actions, acting as God’s vessels to spread His love and compassion to all mankind. We prefer not to focus on minor doctrinal issues that might prove to be divisive, but choose rather to encourage each other in unity and love (Philippians 2:1-4).
In matters essential to faith, we live in UNITY with one another. In the non-essential issues, we give LIBERTY to one another. In all things, we are to treat one another with LOVE.
In light of this, these are the essential doctrines we believe in:
THE BIBLE
The Bible is God’s Word. It is inspired by God. The Bible is God’s authority on the subjects it addresses and is inerrant. (II Timothy 3:15-17; II Peter 1:19-21)
GOD
There is one God, eternally existent in community as three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26; Deuteronomy 6:4; Mathew 28:19; John 10:30; John 14:15-26).
JESUS CHRIST
SALVATION
It is required that we be regenerated by the Holy Spirit for salvation from the sin which separates each of us from God. Justification is solely through faith in Jesus Christ and His death on the cross on our behalf. Only by God’s grace through faith are we saved. Our faith response to the free gift of salvation is the means by which we surrender to Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. This faith response includes trusting in Christ as Lord and Savior, turning from sin, and testifying to our faith publicly in baptism. Through our faith response we become part of God’s family and receive eternal life. (John 3:16-17; 5:24; Romans 3:21-26; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:3-7; Matthew 28:19-20)
LIFE AFTER DEATH
Heaven or Hell awaits every person upon their physical death. Those who have received Christ as Savior will go to heaven. Those who have rejected the salvation Christ offered will go to Hell. (John 5:24-29; Revelation 20:11-15).
BODY OF CHRIST
The spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ is a necessity in order for the body of Christ to function properly (John 17:20-23; Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 12:12-14; Galatians 3:26-28). The ministry of the Holy Spirit indwelling the Christian enables the Christian to live a godly life (Romans 8:13; I Corinthians 6:19-20; Galatians 5:16-25).
